I just cleaned up my desktop and came across a document for french class, in which I wrote about the influence media has on young people. Media and advertising has always interested me, and I’m taking a business marketing class now. Nevertheless I think advertising goes a pit too far when they reveal extremely vulnerable people, unhealthy views on how your body should look, or violence in their campaigns. It makes young people, especially, unsure of themselves and confuses the younger audience when media treats them like adults. Of course companies have to target a certain market segment, but is it really necessary to sell Batman or Spiderman toys to children of the age of three when the actual movies are recommended for people over the age of thirteen?
I don’t want to sound old-fashion or pessimistic, but media should take a step forwards and become better role models. They’re the main source of values and norms in todays society, so they should take that possibility to lead with a good example. Every hour of TV exposes people to minimum 6 acts of violence. I think this is horrendous, and the worst thing is that people find it perfectly normal. Just because it’s normal doesn’t mean it’s right however.
I remember when I was younger and lived in England, our babysitter wouldn’t allow my brother and I to watch the sex-scenes of the James Bond Movies but it was fine to watch the endless killing and fighting scenes. When my parents were around, it was completely the opposite.

To me, this picture looks very bias-motivated, as it evokes a gang rape in which the man is holding the woman down. How can this possibly sell their clothes?
